The Deal

                   Our End of the Bargain

We'll explain the basics of diabetes and how to

manage it.  Three sessions are:

Introduction to Diabetes  Things you should know.

What Should I Eat?  A simple look at food.

The Magic Bullet  Why physical activity is powerful.

You'll receive a free one month YMCA membership.

It's great chance to prove to yourself that activity

works.

If your first A1c 3 months after CDP is lower than

the last one before you started, you'll receive a

free t-shirt that reads "Challenge Met."  When

asked what the challenge was, we hope you'll

proudly share how you lowered your A1c and

take the opportunity to explain the facts about

diabetes.

                Your End of the Bargain

1. Have your health care professional complete

the Safe Exercise Assessment Form and send it to

CDP according to the instructions on the form (the

SEAF is available on the  Sign Up Forms Page.

Health care professionals can download it quickly

on the Home Page.

2.  "Work around the edges" to make small changes.

First,  whether you use the Y membership or not,

increase  your physical activity.  A step counting

device or app can help you keep track.

Second, reduce the amount of carbohydrates you

eat. Don't consume more carbs than you did when

you started the program because this may offset

the effect of physical activity.

The Deal

CDP is free and open to everyone, including those who do not have diabetes.  Check the "schedule" page to find a time and place that suits you and let us know how many are coming.  Diabetic participants frequently bring their spouse, a family member or significant other.

Please attend all three classes.  By taking sensible steps you can impact your blood glucose levels right away. You'll meet other diabetics and learn that all of us share the same struggle but some use different  strategies to deal with it.
